- Kit R. Roane is a versatile New York-based writer and photographer who has drawn on his experiences to pen several screenplays, including one for Warner Bros. Studios and another optioned for development by Sony Pictures. Among these events was a tour in Iraq where he was one of a handful of un-embedded reporters to make it into the war zone with the advancing Coalition. Driving a rental car, he survived several firefights and reached Baghdad on the morning it fell to United States Marines.
- Roane’s screenwriting has benefited from his work as a journalist, which has brought him into contact with a variety of cultures and a diversity of subjects. Roane is currently writing for a variety of publications, including Conde Nast’s Portfolio. For the last seven years he was a Senior Writer for U.S. News & World Report, covering events from the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq to investigations of organized crime and Wall Street scandals. Previously Roane was a staff reporter with The New York Times, working on international, national and New York assignments, including the police shooting of Amadou Diallo.
- Before becoming a staffer at The Times, Roane’s work appeared frequently under contract in national news outlets including The Times and The Chicago Tribune. During this period, he spent time overseas as a war correspondent, including a year covering the war in Bosnia between 1995-1996 and a short stint traveling with the rebels in Chiapas, Mexico. Roane also worked on a variety of national stories such as the Oklahoma City bombing and the O.J. Simpson trial.
- In addition to his writing, Roane is a well-regarded documentary photographer whose photographs have appeared in The New York Times Magazine, The New York Times, The Boston Globe, The Detroit Free Press, Business Week, Paris Match, Focus, PBS Frontline, and GQ, among others. Two of his photographs were jury-chosen for inclusion in American Photography’s Annual showcase, AP20. He is currently represented by several photo agencies, including SIPA Press. Roane is also the founder of the web portal WarShooter.com, which was developed to give conflict photographers a voice from the front.
- Roane is a native of southeast Texas and received a Bachelor of Arts from The University of Texas at Austin. He currently lives in Brooklyn, New York, with his wife, a former federal organized crime prosecutor.
